In particular, our lawyers have wide experience in administrative law, the branch of civil law under which citizens are able to challenge decisions of government agencies at all levels where those decisions affect them adversely e.g. decisions about pensions and benefits; liquor gaming and other licences and permits; and migration and taxation decisions to name just a few categories of decision that may have a drastic effect on people’s lives. In 2021 Kelly & Partners had carriage of the mandatory vaccine case brought by United NT Businesses against the Chief Health Officer and the NT Government (Phillips v CHO). Our case was so strong with the help of Professor Nikolai Petrovski and barrister Julian Burnside QC AO, that the government responded by enacting retrospective legislation to over-ride our case just three weeks before the trial was to begin.
